Practical recommendations explain what needs attention and what to tackle first.
Understanding the fire risks within your premises is the starting point for effective fire safety. A fire risk assessment considers how a fire could start, who could be affected and whether the precautions in place provide appropriate protection.
Lucid Fire & Security provides fire risk assessments that help businesses identify potential hazards and make informed decisions about their fire safety arrangements. Our accredited assessor considers your building, its day-to-day use and the people who occupy it, with findings presented as clear, practical recommendations.
Our assessments support your responsibilities under the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010. We help you understand where improvements are needed and how to prioritise them, giving you a useful basis for managing fire safety across your premises.
Every premises has its own fire risks. Our assessment considers the layout of your building, the activities taking place and the people who may be affected by a fire.
We identify potential ignition sources, combustible materials and working practices that could increase risk. Particular consideration is given to anyone who may need additional assistance or could be especially vulnerable, helping ensure the assessment reflects how your premises are actually used.
We assess the existing measures intended to prevent fire, raise the alarm and help people leave safely.
Depending on your premises, this includes consideration of escape routes, fire doors, alarm provision, emergency lighting, extinguishers and signage. We also review fire safety management arrangements, such as evacuation procedures, staff instruction and available maintenance records, to identify gaps that could affect the protection of occupants.
Your assessment findings are presented in a written report with a practical, prioritised action plan.
Where improvements are needed, the recommendations explain the issue and the action required. This helps you distinguish matters needing prompt attention from other improvements, allocate responsibilities and plan the work.
The report also provides a record of the assessment that you can retain alongside your other fire safety documentation.
The assessment looks at the relationship between your building, its occupants and your fire safety arrangements. Key areas include:
The findings determine where further action is needed. Recommendations should reflect the risks within your premises and the way the building is used.
If your assessment identifies work relating to fire alarms, emergency lighting or extinguishers, Lucid can discuss the relevant installation, servicing and maintenance options with you.
With assessment and fire system services available through one company, we can help you understand the next steps and arrange the support needed to address relevant recommendations. Any additional work can be discussed and quoted separately.
Whether you need your first assessment or are unsure whether an existing assessment still reflects your premises, speak to Lucid. We’ll discuss your building and requirements, then explain the next steps.

Fire safety legislation requires employers and others with control of relevant premises to assess fire risks and take appropriate precautions. This covers most commercial premises.
Appointing an assessor helps you fulfil these duties, but responsibility for managing fire safety and acting on the findings remains with the relevant duty holder.
Your assessment should be reviewed regularly and whenever there is reason to believe it is no longer valid.
Changes to the layout, activities, occupancy or fire safety arrangements may require an update. A fire or near miss can also indicate that a review is needed. The appropriate review interval depends on the premises and its risks.
Useful information includes your previous fire risk assessment, any outstanding action plan and details of how the building is used.
Where available, provide fire alarm and emergency lighting records, extinguisher servicing records, evacuation procedures, staff training records and fire drill records. These help the assessor understand your existing arrangements.
A fire risk assessment considers whether your fire precautions are appropriate and identifies potential shortcomings. It does not replace the routine inspection, testing or servicing of fire alarms, emergency lighting or extinguishers.
These activities remain part of managing fire safety, alongside acting on assessment findings and keeping your arrangements under review.
